Thanks SP9 Pal!

March 9, 2007

I am humbly apologizing for my lateness in posting my thanks to Gretchen, who was an amazing secret pal in spite of the holidays, a full-time job, a family and the noro virus. Thanks, lady! I love my package! Here’s the scoop:

Killer mobster Yorkie Gino stands guard over the cool stuff, making sure no one tries to take it. Jinx looks on.

Gorgeous and 0h-so-soft bulky merino and cool thick-thin yarn from a local farmer’s market. I’m so going to NYC; our farmer’s markets don’t have cool stuff like that.

Chocolate soap in chunk and liquid form with a big note saying DO NOT EAT! Both smell completely yum. Notice kitty bum of approval in the background.  And I can’t forget to mention the cool knitting gadgets which are like black shoes–you can never have too many (especially someone like yours truly who is always losing stuff).

Not to be picky, but . . .

I just happened to catch part of an episode of Little House on the Prairie with Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash in which he plays a con-man pretending to be a visiting pastor.  He learns to be good, as is required on all LHOTP episodes.  I thought the Cashes did a nice bit of acting, but I was disappointed that Johnny’s only singing was “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” and no singing at all from June.  As the program ended, Johnny Cash walked out of the church to the congregation singing “In the Garden.”  I thought to myself, “Hmmmmm, I think that song was written in the 20th century.”  I was right.  It’s a little thing, but I hate it when people don’t do their homework.  At least they were right about My Bonnie.

Lovie Smith is my hero.  That dude has leadership skills that need to be studied and emulated.  Love that Lovie.

When a head of state is this fine.

Quiz time!

November 15, 2006

Anyone know what state holiday this is?  You Michiganders have the edge here.  Oh wait, none of you are reading this because you are all out DEER HUNTING.

That’s right folks, it’s opening day of deer hunting season, and there’s no school in Michigan–at least in the counties I used to live in.  (I am NOT making this up.)

In honor of the festivities, guess what happened to me this evening on the way to drop my son off at StudentCommunity?

A deer ran in front of my car.  On Ogden Avenue.  At rush hour.  (I am NOT making this up.) Fortunately, my UP driving skills kicked in, and I avoided hitting the doe.  And the people behind me avoided hitting me.  Thankfully.

Nothing like a little cervine skirmish to get the blood pumping on opening day.  And don’t forget it’s a deer hunting license, not a beer hunting license.

Let’s be careful out there.

And here’s another quiz question:  is this the kind of deer I saw?

Thanks for all the birthday wishes.  I love you guys.  Still having intermittent email issues, hope to respond to everyone individually ASAP.   Birthday pictures and present update to come.

for the comments and congratulations on my dream job post.  Sorry I haven’t responded.  I’m having email issues.  I started my job today, and ironically, I was able to knit about three rows of the scarf I started.  The secretary gave me work to do.  But that’s okay, it made the day go quickly.

I spent most of the weekend organizing closets and sorting through stuff from my emptied storage rental unit.  The house still looks like the wreck of the Hesperus, but at least the chaos is more organized.

I’m Alana! Lorinda’s daughter. I dedicate this tombstone to you. You’ll be under it sooner then you think. {Just kidding}

Can you feel the love?

October 26, 2006

Secret Pal 9 packages are already making their way to spoilees around the world. Awesome!

I love my group; y’all know how to rock it.  And I want to thank each one of you who is willing to adopt a different spoiler; I was choked up reading your emails today.  Can you feel the love?  I can, and it makes me proud and humbled (remember humbled from the previous post?) to be part of such an amazing group of people.

New contest coming soon;  I’ve received some great ideas!

I have too much to do today, so I’m going back to bed.  But first, I’ll find a way to post some pictures today of things that are so ancient they ought to be carbon-dated.

I took pictures last night, but realized they will look horrible with no natural lighting.  So, when it gets light, I’ll try again.

For now, back for some extra weekendy zzzzzzzzzs.
