I want this guy 24/7

Sibling revelry

January 11, 2007

In honor of my liddle brudder’s birthday, photos of the Hayes kids to amuse and astound.

And spare me the ‘more chins than a Chinese phone book’ joke; I already thought of it.

Me with my now-knitting Heather (isn’t she cute?).  I’ll have to add her to Yarn Yenta‘s Heather file.  Sadly blogless, though.

The birthday boy!!!!!   And the danger of self-portraits with digital cameras.  Serious dorkage.  We call this the ‘Edna Mode and Mr. Incredible’ shot.  Fabulous, dahling!  Love you Nature Jay.

Bebeh brudder hoseying the butter and vinegar for Christmas dinner.  Isn’t all food an excuse to eat butter?  And vinegar?

I was going to include the SNL sketch “Welcome to All Things Scottish” for obvious reasons, but it’s not out on the net except in transcript form, so I’ll just have to say “My brother!!!!”.

And speaking of that sketch, I hear Kiefer is single now.

He will be mine, oh yes, he will be mine.

Check out the Nickelodeon PSA to eat breakfast that I found on Unfurnished Brooklyn’s blog. I told her I don’t think even utensils bustin’ a move could get me to eat breakfast, unless coffee counts.

Jesus–NOT!

January 10, 2007

Check out these videos from a church in North Carolina. They redubbed a vintage movie with the those ‘unspoken’ lessons we teach and practice about Jesus. It’s okay to laugh. I sure did. I especially love Jesus’ voice.

It’s Sunday School meets Mystery Science Theater 3ooo

Mini-Mes

January 10, 2007

I turned my kids into mini-mes so I could find them in the airport;  some mothers put their kids in matching shirts–not me, I gave them matching hair.

Now ABC is wearing a hat to school, looking for all the world like Dumb Donald, because her hair is a lovely shade of strawberry blonde (aka pink) as the temporary color fades.

Hopefully that cured them of wanting to dye their hair.   And pardon the gooby pic of me; my sister and I were comparing prominent probosci–a family trait.  You should see it when we get in a line; it’s downright scary.

2007, the year of the sock

January 10, 2007

Well, hopefully more than one sock.  I want to knit socks, socks and more socks this year.  A lady I worked with asked me yesterday when I would ‘advance’ to sweaters.  Hmmmmm.  I smiled nicely and told her I planned to knit one for my mom.  You knitters can imagine the thoughts behind the pasted-on smile, though.

Here’s what’s on the needles now–the Tipsy Knitter Sock in Colinette’s Jitterbug, colorway Toscana.  I am completely in love with this yarn, and like Mr. Whipple, I cannot stop squeezing it.

Secret Pal Strikes Again!

January 10, 2007

Thanks, Secret Pal for the wonderful package! I waited to post because the light has been so terrible, I can’t get a decent picture. It’s not improving, however, so I thought an undecent (as opposed to indecent) picture would have to do. Some lovely, sproingy (clinical knitting term) Monarch sock yarn in the Christmas colorway. So beautiful!

And my first Elizabeth Zimmerman book of my very own! It’s easy to see why the knitting world is in love with her; her writing style is so warm and conversational. I can’t wait to read the whole thing and try out some of the patterns (not sure if ‘nether garments’ will top the list, but I appreciate the sentiment).

Also yummy Hershey’s kisses (long gone) and Barnes and Noble gift cards for my two kiddos (one used for a kitty calendar and teeny bopper magazine, the other being hoarded).

Thanks for your thoughtfulness, we all loved the package!

Spotlight on blogs

January 9, 2007

Here are some blogs I’ve been enjoying lately:

Sour Cherries–KILLER photos and gorgeous knitting

Mei Flower–tales of a knitting teacher, hilarious, genius

and my perennial favorite

KnitSisters–the blog I read first in my Bloglines; my two fave knitting sisters, talented, lovely and FUNNY!  Take that, dude who thinks women aren’t.

And speaking of that dude–can we talk?  I’m still stewing about that article.

Happy New Year!

January 6, 2007

Back from a trip to the Great White North to visit the fam.  It was fun–they had snow!  Had some family time, shopped (think HandMaiden sock yarn), went out to eat at a yummy restaurant and saw a movie.  It was a great get-away.

And I came home to a package from my Secret Pal!  Thanks pal; I’ll post pictures as soon as I get my unpacking done and find the camera.

Thanks for all the holiday movie and music suggestions.  Ironically, I ended up watching Season 2 of House and The Office.  High marks for both.

Sending wishes to each of you for a healthy, happy, and blessed 2007.
