New Contest! sp9’s super short stories.

October 26, 2006 · 51 Comments

Hey sp9ers (and friends and loved ones of sp9ers):

Anne turned me on to this super idea. I can’t even stand it; I love it so much. Especially the Hemingway one.
So here’s the deal:

Write a short story using six words. One of the words must be fiber related (yarn, needles, hook, you get the idea).

Six words; no more, no less.

How’s that for a start?

And here’s one from ABC, my nine-year old auteur:

I am in love with Charles. Not fibery but clever, very clever.
Spread the word! There will be prizes . . .

(Anne girl, I am SO in love with this idea!)

Edited to add:  I must have erased half this post.  There WILL be prizes (I just about typed ‘probable cause’ because I’m watching Law & Order.)

Can you feel the love?

October 26, 2006 · 1 Comment

Secret Pal 9 packages are already making their way to spoilees around the world. Awesome!

I love my group; y’all know how to rock it.  And I want to thank each one of you who is willing to adopt a different spoiler; I was choked up reading your emails today.  Can you feel the love?  I can, and it makes me proud and humbled (remember humbled from the previous post?) to be part of such an amazing group of people.

New contest coming soon;  I’ve received some great ideas!

Be careful what you judge

October 26, 2006 · 5 Comments

I remember the long ago days of being a social worker.  I, who had no kids, presumed to ‘teach’ those who had kids and then screwed them up.  Or so I thought.

Then the great humbler, parenthood, arrived.  As my children age I realize I am only one bad decision away from being in the same position those tired, frustrated people were.  I find myself saying some of the same things they said and responding to parenting challenges the way they did.  God help me.

I realize now that we’re all just trying to do the best we can.  Some have better success than others. As I ponder all the bad parenting I’ve done (just this morning), I can think of only one thing to say to those parents I looked down my very long nose at:

I’m sorry.
