Today a poem from Jack, age 10
The Closer
The tall reliever steps to the mound
The last inning has come around.
The ball is rapped back through the box
The short stop hunts it like a fox.
The throw is low and just in time,
So Burt the better lost a dime.
The next guy’s tall and twice as tough
Now the game has just got rough.
The pitcher deals a fast 2-seamer
The batter unloads and hits a screamer.
It’s deep to left and hard to fetch
But the left fielder slides to make a basket catch.
The next guy whiffs to end the frame
The pitcher’s on his way to fame.
The relief around the dugout is huge
These guys know they’re not going to lose.
